I'm seeing rusty dipsticks more and more lately, sure it wasn't rust? Seems they fit tight at the top, and let condensation build up in the tube, sometimes rusting the stick in place so bad the plastic handle pulls off. Try pouring some light oil down the tube, keep working the stick back and forth. Sorry to hear about the Nissan, somewhere on the web there is a list of these interference engines, that lose all their valves/pistons when the timing belt goes. John in Ne.
