If it is geared right and has the 235 engine, they are very good for gas mileage with the 3 speed overdrive.I had a '56 and I loved it, fun to drive, put it in high gear and nearly like driving an automatic on the open road. Push down on the accelerator and it will shift down on hills and let off when you reach the top of the hill and it shifts back to overdrive. Check around for a more reasonable rebuild. If it were mine I would keep it original. With the right bellhousing you should be able to use the 3 speed with the 350 but you won't get the gas milage.It would take a motor mount change for an auto bellhousing but with a overdrive auto mileage would probably be close as 350 and 3 speed...James
