The engines DO in fact last longer. In the '60's, a car with over 100K was considered to be a worn out turd. (there are exception though...) Today, if you get less than 150K out of a new car, you wanna sue the manufacturer.
IMO there are 4 main things making engines last longer.
Better tolerances... Nuf said.
Electronic fuel injection... Less fuel washing down the cylinder walls and diluting the oil. This is a very good thing to reduce.
Roller cams...The 6.2/6.5 have these, the roller lifters all but eliminate friction on the lobes, and the lobe will live 100K+, instead of wiped lobes at 75K.
And the oil Is much better today...again, nuf said.
