Using a ranger fuel tank between frame and drive shaft of a

I've seen a 1965 chevy truck with a gas tank mounted between the drive shaft and frame and would like to know if anyone has heard of that before. I need to know from what vehicle is this tank out of and what was used for the fuel door through the fender in front of the tire. I believe the owner said it was out of a ford ranger...what year i don't know. Can anyone help me??
