alternative fuel tank

I have a 1965 GMC short bed, step side and saw a pick-up like mine but a chevy that had a Ford Ranger fuel tank installed between the drive shaft and frame rail. Does anyone know of someone doing this and what year/model was used? Also the fuel cap door was from another type vehicle but I don't remember what he said it came from...that would be the easy part of doing all this. I hope to save some time if I could find someone thats done this already...HELP!
