Best rear gear for Izusu Diesel Powered 1 ton?Posted by Gary (Ont) on November 01, 2002 at 10:20:25 from (199.243.72.93):
I've installed an Izusu 5.8 6 cyl. turbo diesel in my '41 Chev COE and it's working find and has great power for towing. It has a '75 chev 1 ton chassis with a dana 70 rear with 4:10 gears. With 31" tires at 60 mph it revs about 2900 rpm. Top end is 3500 rpm and about 75 mph. Peak torque on this motor is at about 1900. I have been thinking about a change to a 3.73 or 3.50 ratio to allow for a higher cruising speed at a lower rpm. With the 3.73 I figure I'll drop about 300 rpm at 60 mph. Is this small amount worth the trouble and expense? Anyone know what this engine revs in the Chev Tiltmasters?
