Ford 351w no power

I'm a little stumped! Neighbour has a '85 Ford used for trailer pulling. No power. Seemed to be starving for fuel so I overhauled carb, played with the jets, ended up 3 sizes richer. seemed to work better. Then it choked again! Spark wasn't all that hot so changes the coil. He made 1 good run, then did it again? Any bright ideas?
