Most Loadstars from that vintage had a 5sp that was syncro in all but 1st and rev . The codes were T-34 , T35 and T36 , difference being 34 was 5th overdrive , 35 was direct 5th and 36 was a closer ratio 4th and 5th and also direct 5th . Those transmissions were I think built by IH but a copy of some older Fuller model . Like I said all the 16-1700's I've seen , owned or driven with 5sp were syncronesh maybe it was changed but I haven't seen them all either . A constant mesh " colar shift " heavy duty non syncro 5sp was used in the heavier trucks 180-1800 series and up . IH used a lot of different components in their trucks over the years it is very important to have the line setting when going for parts for trucks that old , believe me I know I have two old COLoadstars , it's next to impossible to get anything from Navistar etc .
