Sounds like the timing is retarded way too much. Is the Oliver distributor a DelcoRemy with the same part number? If different, the automatic advance may not be right which would accout for the poor response, and a inoperative or poorly operating accelerator pump in the carb would do it too. You may be able to get the right distributor from Ken at http://www.ihcparts.com/
