Fifth Wheel Pin Box extension

Got the travel trailer home with a neighbour's truck and fifth wheel and then realized that I am going to have to extend the pin as I have a short box truck. I see some trailers have extended pin boxes on the front and since mine is bolted on , I figure I should be able to find or remake mine and do the same. Will this change anything while pulling it down the highway? I phoned a couple of dealers and they said to trade the trailer. I am sure something could work and could use some advice. Thanks
