If your in cab tank is not leaking...it is really the safest and most practical place to keep it. Your options on relocating the tank includ: 1. Under bed behind rear axle. 2. Under bed on outside of frame rail (ala 73 - 87 GM). 3. under bed/cab inside frame rail. 1. Under bed, behind rear axle. You ever seen a pick up that had been rear ended? Normally the car goes up under the truck, picking up the tires off the ground, and even hitting the rear axle if car is going fast enough. 2. Saddle mounted tank. Anyone remember the 20/20 episode when they slammed a Citation into the side of one of these trucks? How about the class action law suit to G.M. and the rather large discount G.M. had to give to these ppl for a new truck? (Like you'd buy from them after discovering you've been in a fire death trap for 10 years)
3. Under cab/bed inside frame rails Same as Ford does today, but VERY impractable and hard to fab up. Also, if you are running daul exhaust...very hard to do with this tank. Keeping the stock tank Onless the tank leaks, this is the best place for it. It will not interfear with your exhaust, will not be damaged in a typical traffic accident and if it DOES get hit hard enough to get punctured, you probably won't be around to see the aftermath anyways.
