HEI for '73 pickup

I have a 1973 chevy pickup with an old standard distributor with points. Can I swap a later model HEI distributor? If so what do I look for in one or all they all the same? What do I have to rewire to use it? I assume it will need a later style coil also. Any help appreciated.
