The coil is in the distributor cap on the HEI. The HEI in my truck has one inlet for connecting to power, and a second inlet for an optional tachometer. Another thing to remember, if you are going to be doing things like using the starter to bump the engine the manual says to unplug the power wire coming into the distributor. My coil started smoking after a couple seconds, and I've always tried to remember to unplug the wire. I always try to remember to replug the wire afterwarc, too:-) also, you will have to switch to spark plugs for the HEI, One time they sold me the wrong spark plugs, and they burned up in a couple days. Just remember to tell the parts guy that it is HEI ignition.
