As Johnny B has said, it is important to get the correct voltage to the HEI. I'll save what he said when I do mine.If I might add, I believe in 1980, they were computer controlled. Prior to 1980, (76-79) they were simpler. But if you use a HEI from then, it is probably worn out, unless you bought a rebuilt unit. For about $150 you could get a new proform or summit from summit racing. They also sell the plug with two wires, that conects to the HEI and then to the power.
