Hey Tc, a 351 mod. or 400 are the only engines that are a complete bolt in. a 429 or 460 can be used with a few changes and will work well, but there are things that need to be done to make it work rite. a 429-460 early models can be used with a 360-390 flywheel, you will have to cut 3/8 in. off the flywheel bolts to keep them from contacting the rear main. use a 360-390 solid brass pilot bushing, machine 3/8 in. off one side, drive it all the way to rear of crank cavity. get a clutch and pressure plate for a late 80s 3/4 ford pu. get the pressure plate that is drilled for both the long, and the borg & beck patterns, use the org. 79 throwout bearing. use the 351-M - 400 starter, the 400 belhousing will then bolt directly to the block with out any spacers. check the length of the input shaft where it goes into the pilot bushing, you may have to cut 3/8 in. off that also, to keep it from contacting the rear of the crank. doing all of the above things will give you a longer lasting starter drive, ring gear, and you can get positive clutch adjustment without your throw out fork hitting on the pressrue plate. you can use the car oil pan, (front sump) if you are not going cross crountry through the untamed wild. find a set of exaust manifolds from a mid 70s 3/4 2 wd pu,with a 460 these will work without any cutting of the frame. home made engine mounts are a pain, there is a place in tx. L&L products that makes all the parts for this swap, including life time mounts, they are pricey, but good stuff. you can call them up on the web and look at some of thier stuff here.
