Lots of pickups have a plate over the transmission, but I don't remember if yours does. You generally have to cut a hole through the floor in the right place for your shifter. 20 years ago, 3 speeds were common and there were lots of companies that put out varying quality floor shifters to fit many specific applications. Now 3 speeds are much less common and there are fewer choices. I bet you could get a Hurst shift kit that would work brand new. My experience with Hurst products has been very good. However it might be fairly expensive. If you plan to use the vehicle as a hauler, I would suggest a truck 4 speed. Obviously lots of Chevys and GMC's had such transmissions and many consider the granny low truck 4 speed the best for off road. Just like with an automatic conversion, you need to get all the parts. Maybe all or some of your existing clutch linkage would work. A good wrecking yard can probably tell you just what you would need to change it over. This conversion might end up being the strongest and maybe even the cheapest option. Or you could leave it like it is and enjoy it that way, assuming your column linkage is not worn out.
