I've got a 67 that I've rebuilt a couple times due to dropped cab mounts. Take the steering wheel off. Disconect it at the steering box, and at the fire wall, and the two bolts at the dash, then un-plug the wires coming from the colum, and disconnect the shifter rods. Now all the guts should slide out the bottom. The shifter is a couple tubes inside the colum and the cast shifter boot will come off too. Everything should be prety obvious what is happening at this point. Replace any needed parts, and replace the bearings now too. It's about an hour to get it out and apart. No big deal.
