1976 Dodge W300 - want med. duty man. OD trans....

I am on a similar project as the person w/ the '74 Dodge. Mine is a 76 Dodge one-ton 4x tow truck w/ a 400cid V8 and a NP435 trans - "top loader" (stick goes into top of trans). I want to keep the 4.88s and find a 5speed overdrive manual but have heard the new Dodge 5sp 4500 may be too weak. I remembered Dodge used to make medium dutys but the service manuals at my library don't tell what may be the trans I want. Wrenchman, can you help me??
