1962 GMC 4X4

Found a '62 GMC ,8' bed,4X4.V6,4 speed.Unmolested.some bondo and dents,but solid.Glass good.Was on road until 2 yrs ago.Can get for $500.Was thinking of throwing in small block,but know thinking maybe go stock(MUST be gettin' old!) Had a inline 292,but know nothing about the V6s.What size,how are they,etc,etc? My Dad said they made some right able ones back then,just wondering what you thought about them.And the deal.Thanks,Dave
