i want to put a gooseneck hitch ball in my 84 F350. it has an 8 ft flatbed on it which has 4 inch channel stringers and 3 inch crossmembers. i have been thinking about taking a peice of 8 inch channel and welding it between the rails and putting the hitch ball in the center of that, probably reinforce the channel in the center by welding a half inch plate on top of it. the body is secured with peices of channel running verticaly bolted to the frame at all 4 corners with 2 half inch grade 8 bolts thru the frame on each corner. should i add more bracing right at the place on the stringers where the crosspeice for the ball will be. i plan to make a removable square cover in the bed to cover the ball when i wont be using it. also, how far ahead of the axle should i mount my hitch ball for proper weight distribution
