I-H 7.3 missing under loadPosted by Gary Hearn on February 02, 2003 at 03:50:06 from (216.54.110.73): I went to run my IH rollback with the 7.3 diesel for the first time in three months yesterday and when put under a load it would die down and pick back up. The duration of the "run" cycles appeared to be a bit longer than the "dead" cycle, maybe 12 and 8 seconds respectively. This happened last year, but some fuel conditioner appeared to help then. While the problem had cleared up within 5 miles before, it never did today and it ultimately quit on a hill and with weak batteries would not start again. I could only get it up to 35 - 45 MPH and even less on an uphill grade. I noticed that when the motor picked up that there would be a minor detonation under the hood and a puff of smoke out of the back. Is this water in the fuel or do I have some type of air lock in the lines that bleeding would have helped? I warmed the truck up for about 20 minutes before starting and the temp here was in the low 40's, so I do not think ice would have been a problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.
