NFPA is a good place to look for this information.
I used to work in the heating business. We did a
couple of commercial garages in town with
gas-fired unit heaters hung over 8 feet off the
floor.
If I was going to do my own garage, I would choose
a direct-vent waal mount ed gas heater. The
combustion chamber is sealed off from the room and
it is far more economical to run than electric in
