#1 Cylinder miss.....unusual idea!Posted by Mandy A on February 11, 2003 at 05:47:39 from (66.118.25.250):
I have a dead miss on #1 cylinder on a 1970 F-100 240 I-6, due to low compression. I replaced the head gasket last saturday, which did not help as I still have low compression, (not to mention a sore back!).I need to use this truck and dont have either the money or time to fix it correctly at this time, which I assume will be to pull out the piston, check it for cracks and add new rings. The truck runs fair, even with the miss, although it builds pressure in the crankcase which pushes out some of the oil. Heres the unusual idea for you guys. Can I disable the intake valve for this #1 cylinder, as it misfires already? If so, can I just take off the rocker arm and pull out the pushrod, leaving the lifter in place? I think I read somewhere that Cadillac did this in the past. You guys have any thoughts on doing this?
