Easy way by far would be to just leave the plug out. You could install a hose in the plug hole to help min. the noise (kinda like a muffler system) or get fancy and route it to the exghaust manifold. This will leave the other 5 just pulling the weight of #1 and not having to deal with suction and compression. By just closing the intake you will create a vacuum in the cylinder during intake stroke. It will try to pull gases from the crank case up around the weak rings and on compression it will push them back out. In affect creating a braking action for the other 5 cyl. I think the system you were referring to in a caddi opens the exhaust and closes the intake. That way there is no incoming fuel or any compression during those strokes and the piston can move freely since the exhaust valve is open.
