460 ford pre ignition problems

I have a 77 F250 with 460 , around 100,000 miles.
the truck has eaten probably 15 starters since it was new. It always has kicked back on the starter bad. I recently put a new timing chain and a complete valve job ,now it is worse. I changed the electronic ignition once to see if that would help ,it didnt. I was wondering if a point distributer would make any difference. any suggestions?
