This question has popped up on another board I frequent for a couple over seas members. No one has been able to give a good answer either. Almost seems as if there is no limit, or that it is set by your local and state level gov. I don't really know if that is true, but I know nonw of my books nor owners manuals state the towing limit, neither does the door plaque or glove box sticker.
In reality, the towing will be limited to what your springs and brakes and hitch can handle. The frame really isn't much of a deal as long as you do everything properly and it is not a rusted turd to begin with. One thing to remember, you said it has a 12 bolt, so it is safe to asume it is a 1/2 ton truck. Your local regulations may well give you flack driving a 1/2 ton loaded down so much. And in reality, installing that 14 bolt later full floating rer will not mater to them. (although a good update) What ever the truck was designed as, is all the DOT will recognise...even one tojn stuff on an S-10...they'd still say its an S-10.
I'll be watching this thread myself seeing if anyone has any good answers and referances. Like I said, I know a couple ppl over seas that could use this info for 1/2 ton suburbans.
