compression

OK guys, I may rebuild the 240 I-6 in my 1970 F-100 after all. But before I do that, I want to check the compression on all the cylinders with a better compression guage. What brand and type of guage would be best? And what should the normal compression range be, per cylinder, on a 240 I-6?
