'88 GMC headgasket ??

I know I'm 2 years too new, but I bet somebody knows this.
I'm inheriting an '88 GMC 1500 with a 350ci engine. Its got about 90k miles.
I've been told that at around 100k the 350s are known for eating headgaskets so I should just plan on replacing them as a matter of course and maybe have the heads gone over while I'm there. I have my doubts about this prediction. After all my Dodge 318 has almost 130k with no such problems, knock on wood.
Remember this truck was bought in '91 with about 20k miles and since then mostly driven gently by a little old man. Oil changed every 3 months or 3k miles all maintenance done faithfully.
