Ford fuel pumps run with ignition off

Greetings-
I've used tractor discussion board with some success, thought I'd try you knowledgeable fellows.
1991 Ford F-250 ext cab 4x4 460 c.i. auto tranny.
When I turn the engine off and with the key out of the ignition the fuel pump stays humming. If I hit the switch to change to the other tank then the one stops and the other one starts humming.
Truck runs ok. Nothing else electrical works when the ignition is off(only what is supposed to work).
Is there a relay or switch telling the fuel pumps to prime the injectors or something?
Any ideas appreciated-unhooking the battery terminal all the time is getting old!
Thank You
