Point life has absolutely nothing to do with fuel and everything to do with the condenser. Replace the condenser with a NEW one. Not an old stock one, and you will likely solve the problem. If you do decide to go with a pertronix conversion you will still need the advance mechanism. Are you perchance running this on 12 volts? if you are you need a resistor in the primary line to the coil or you will have no point life.
