The wear of the points has everything to do with the condenser, assuming of course that the points are aligned correctly. Also if you are filing the points, do so with a point file and not with any product that can leave grit on the surface of the points. The embedded grit will also cause the points to fail rapidly. When I do a tune up I don't replace the condenser IF the point wear shows it has been working correctly. That is contrary to what many do and what we are taught. You might also be able to gold plate the points contacts. I understand that gold does not produce a spark like other materials. It is my understanding that is why the old telephone switching boards used gold contacts. (If they even did.)
