Company called CLIFFORD makes manifolds that accept 2 & 4 bbl carbs for these engines. I think Offenhauser used to which is now part of Weiand which was bought by Edelbrock if I remember right. I've never had any experience with a 300-6 with a 2 or 4 bbl but I will agree the stock Carter 1 bbl leaves a LOT to be desired. Seems to Me Ford also made a manifold thru their Motorsport or SVT Group for the 300-6. Seems like the Carter carbs were real prone to flooding, vapor lock, had flat spots just off idle. The EFI in '87 finally made a good engine out of them. I put 120,000 miles on an '87 and only about 65,000 on My '78. I rebuilt the carb on the '78 three times, never touched the EFI on the '87. I'd recommend a small 2 bbl. or something around a 350 CFM 4-bbl. 2 bbl & 4 bbl carbs are not rated the same so follow the manifold maker's recommendations.
