I can probably help with some basic questions. I had an '88 S15 during college. Mine had the gutless 2.6l v6. Had the 5spd though so it'd move pretty well. Body finally rusted off.
If you need a door handle I've got one I bought to replace one that wasn't broken. Still in the box.
The v8 conversion was pretty popular. Apparently the auto trans had a better survival rate than the manual. I can testify that the manual was kind of slight. At 80k mine had a new first gear synchro and a clutch. The old clutch wasn't bad, but since it was out we had it done anyway.
Mine had 150k when the body finally rotted off.

Pretty good woods trucks, the 2.8 was actually not bad in first and second gear and low range was pretty low so there was always enough power. Stock the Jimmy was better than the '95 Cherokee my parents replaced it with(when they handed it down to me). Compared to the Cherokee, the Jimmy turned better, was geared better, handled better on pavement and off, had better clearance, better seating (more comfortable) better layout, and didn't eat radios like the Cherokee still does.
My S15 was 11 years old when I got rid of it. The Cherokee is only 8 now and has worse body rust where the paint just fell off of one rocker panel. It has 90k now and needs a clutch badly.
We'll see if it lasts 3 more years for comparison. The chrysler 4l is a stronger engine though and it doesn't drink oil like the Jimmy did. That 2.8l went through a quart every thousand miles, regular as you please.
