These v-8 chev engines are kind of bad about the lobe rounding off on the cams. You can easily checkthis by pulling the valve covers one at a time (They blow oil all over the place) Watch the pushrods. If one is not turning, it is very suspect. The cam lobe contacts the edge of the lifter and rotates it while it is opening the valve. Less friction that way. If it starts to round off, though, it stops the turning action.
