Noisy transfer case when using 90 wt. lubePosted by Dave on May 03, 2003 at 02:43:38 from (216.42.122.23):
Short version of this story-Did all my springtime maint. on my 1972 W-200.Decided to change the lube in the transfer case.Had a bucket of 90 wt. left over from a tractor project, so thats what I refilled with.Over the next 2 days it seemed to get noiser every time I drove it.Hate to admit this one, but I took the case out and had it about half dissassembled before deciding there wasn't anything but normal wear. Refilled with 80-140 wt. and dumped in a can of STP for good measure.Everything back to normal now. Don't know what is wrong with that 90 lube I used, think maybe should drain it out of my tractor too.
