Bet the 8.1 weighs 400-500# less than the Duramax too so that increases load cap. too! If You don't drive the truck a LOT, 20,000+ miles per year and keep the truck a long time the diesel doesn't pay.... and My '96 PSD only cost about $3500 more back then and I drive over 30,000 miles/yr. Be real tough to justify the extra $$$$ for the new 6.0L PSD ($5000 list) when the 6.8L V-10 is about a $500 option if I only drove 10,000 miles/yr like some people.
