Sounds like you are on the right track. Just follow the wire, checking for a short as you go.I have had the same problem with a w900 kw. Had me really vexed till I changed the flasher out of desparation. Went to working just fine. I think the flasher is a plug in type on the main fuse board now days instead of behind the dash, as in the past.
