if it's an automatic tranny you have a switch hooked up to the shifter so you can't start it in gear.it goes bad sometimes.look around the base of steering column if column shift or in console if floor shift.you are looking for 2 heavy purple wires going into same plugin(should be square plug with wires side by side).pull plug & jump across the wires to bypass switch.see if that makes any difference...ATTENTION!! be careful as it WILL start in gear with this switch bypassed...
