Timken (or Rockwell) rearend question

[ View Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Return to Forum ]

Posted by Esev on May 12, 2003 at 18:34:08 from (165.121.151.87):

I have a Timken rearend in my 1947 Reo truck. Top speed is about 30-35mph. Is it possible to change the gear ratio within this rearend ? I would like to get it up to about 40-45mph so I could get a little use out of it on the road. Can anyone tell me how to identify what model it is ? There are some numbers stamped in it, but none match any of the model numbers in my old Motors Manual. Any info, or hints on how to decipher those numbers would be a great help. Thanks
