I spent a lot of time driving fire trucks with 549 V8's in them. IH quit making gas engines about 1975 or so, but that block was the basis of the diesels used in 1468 and 1568 tractors. I did a lot of the work to keep those 549's running until we got rid of our last one in '97. Parts will be your biggest issue, I hope you find a good source.
I have no idea how much it may be worth, but it sounds like you have a bargain, have fun and enjoy it.
