2wd t0 4wd

Have a 2wd 82 chevy 1 ton crew cab and a front axle from a a 78 3/4 ton in great shape. I have been told the bolt holes are allready in the 2wd frame to bolt the 4wd in place! How idiotic is this? any advice is appriciated. thanks Dan M Amsterdam Mo.
