34 ford model BB plug wire locations

greetings, I have a 34 ford model BB with a 1941 mercury V8, the previous owner swaped out the 34 enginge, and left me with lots of spare parts I have 2 34 distributors and one 41 distributor, the distributor caps from the 34 distributors appear to work on the 41 dsitributor however the locating tab is 90* off. (I removed the tab on one) the problem I have is the manual is confusing on which plug wire goes where on the distributor, could anyone tell me where the plug wires go on the distributor, as in #1 bottom right, #4 top right #3 bottom left etc.. I have spark but I spect is is not at the correct cylinder. thanks in advance
