You might try isolating the cylinder with the problem by taking off different spark plug wires to see if the knock will go away. Or if it is an octane knock, maybe a tank of premium gas could identify that as the problem. Once a friend had a big Ford with a 390 that made an odd noise at certain RPM's. We tinkered with that for a long time before we figured out that one of the combinations of lifter/pushrod/rocker arm/valve didn't have quite the right geometry. What we discovered was that the pushrod needed to be a little longer than the rest of the pushrods to preload that lifter the correct amount. A single adjustable pushrod fixed the problem. The engine ran a bit stronger and the worrisome noise went away. Good luck!
