Knurled pistons??Posted by JimKS on July 20, 2003 at 05:38:31 from (65.150.169.149): I posted a little while back about a noise my old ford makes- thanks all for the advice. I have to ask about one suggestion I got, though. This post was from Bill: "Been there done that, turned out that I had the pistons knurled .005, installed new rings, put everything back together and that fixed my knock. Still had the gear train noise, so I changed out timing gear set. Really quite now. I have over 250000 miles and still going strong. Best $270.00 I have ever spent." So this is a question for Bill or anybody else that might know: I've never heard of knurled pistons before... is that a common thing? What do they knurl? Just the skirt, or do they knurl up around the rings, too? Can any ol' machine shop do it or is it kinda hard to find a place that does this? Does such a repair last? Thanks for the info.
