I have a 59GMC 371 series dump truck. It has a 270 engine but prefix letters were used with this engine, it can be a 285, depending on the numbers.

Mine has a New Process 5 speed (optional) but glove compartment plate states it has a GM M120 4 speed.
It has F045 front axle, E13600 reas axle, axle ratio is 5.83 - 8.10, 8 front springs, 11 rear and 7 aux ( don't know what that means), Bud wheels with 825 tires. The cab number is 1754.
The driver's door plate list it as having a gross weight of 19,999.
It has a generator, very large one. Also has hyd, brake booster on left side behind the cab. Standard steering, thank God for the big steering wheel.

I have been able to get brakes shoes, most ball joints in steering, ignition coil and wheel cylinders are available through most local parts stores. I got king pin bushings also. Took three days to get them out, think it never had new ones installed :-)
The fuel pump should have the glass bulb type but
a 429 Ford pump works. The exhaust that hooks to the manifold also works from the 429 Ford. I'm guessing on the Ford motor but it' one ofthe big block 400's in any case.

It has a oil bath type airfilter for carb. Mine still has the governor at the base of the carb..

If you can't get wheel cylinders, most good machine shops can polish your old ones or insert a new sleeve in to make like new.

Hope this isn't too much info. but I felt like the only person in the world witha 300 series GMC.

I also have the GMC maintenace manual, it can be obtained through one of the auto book dealers on-line.
