another thingon engine block to transmission alignment, make sure the two large steel tapered ends dowel pins are out and into the transmission dowel holes far enough to keep the engine and tranny together perfectly straight,if neededthen loosen allthe bellhousing bolts some and punch the dowels through towards tranny towards backof truck some more and then tighten upthe bellhousing bolts.

the 80s trucks seem to crack plates alot, we have had alot of cracked flexplate repair jobs on the 84-86 trucks,could be casting alignment issues, even,.
very common problem,
