Re: Re: '53 6400 series two speed firewall mountedPosted by Randy in IL on August 11, 2003 at 18:23:53 from (4.63.250.209): In Reply to: Re: '53 6400 series two speed firewall mounted con posted by Gary-=Miss on August 11, 2003 at 18:11:21: cool thanks :d welli got under the truck and there are tow equal looking size hoses going to the vacuum diapragm, one on each side of it and no spring oni tlike the smaller diapragms you see around like on some of the school buses and such. i am thinking one hose for hi and other for lo, also i noticed a low hissing noise at idle comeing from under dash somewhere and i found a hose about 1/4" ID coming off of something at the unit on the firewall- but inside the cab, and the hose comes straight forward like its going to go to the speedo or the hi/lo axle speed switch, but the switch is completely mechanical and is just a single rod that the switch assembly spins and the rod goes otthe unit on the firewall, its a long rod, then a rod under the hoodon the unit goes down from the unit down to frame rail and i dont know where to then, this seems like more of a complicated or heavier unit setup than what a singlehose with spring diapragm axle gear setup would be using, i bet. hmmm.. there is a click at the axlewhen switch from hi to lo and also lo to hi, but thats maybe just the diapragm, but i dont know how it could switch both ways withone hose disconnected atthe unit, the hose being the one that hooks to line running straight out the bottom of the unit on the firewall on engine side of the wall./
