Help, anybody got advice on a chevy...Posted by Young guy on March 29, 2002 at 20:59:05 from (209.145.156.58):
I bought an old truck 3 years ago and recently I've lost power due to carbuetor blow-by. Installed new plugs, wires, cap and distrubutor. Still have no power and blow-by. I'm a young guy and never had much experience with this kind of stuff, I know very little about valves. I do know the water has brown discoloration, could this mean a cracked head? Can I take the valve cover off and run the engine to see if valves are all working? If it is the head, how much time would it take to put on a different one if I did the work myself? If I went to the junkyard and found a replacement head and the valves were all in place, can I just swap out the entire thing? Any advice to what the problem is or a solution is appreciated! By the way its a chevy 305 with a rochester 4 barrel. One more thing, is it possible to be a cam lobe? any easy checks? Thanks, Young guy in Illinois
