torsion bars

Got a 1962 Chevy 1/2 ton pick up, it has torsion bars on the front, I want to take them out, cant figure out how, what holds them in, can I just drive them out with a hammer from the front? Anybody out there know anything about this that can give a little advice? Thanks, Jeff
