I heard that D/C was sued by GM because the Jeep front end looked too much like the Hummer and the H2.....

Rather a strange turn considering that the Jeeps dating from WWII had the same basic front end "look" that was used by GM for the "HUMV", Hummer, and H2. And that the company that OWNS the rights to those Kaiser/Fraiser/Willys/Overland/.... designs is none other than D/C.

As for Studebaker, they were in South Bend Indiana until they filed bankruptcy in the US in 1965, and Canadian production continued to 1966.

As I recall, a number of the employees pooled their money to buy the "Avanti" name and tooling, and went on producing the Avanti from 1968 through 1978(?), where they ran into money trouble, and were bought by someone else, who simply named it "Avanti II", and was in production from 1978 onward.

Good to hear they are looking to expand their product line. I wonder what market there would be for a Ranchero/El Camino styled Avanti? Especially with a Corvette driveline....(I can almost hear the sighs and drooling now.)
